Default I love having sex but I'd rather get some headers

After countless hours of consulting the forums, researching, reading many threads and watching many videos, I finally pulled the trigger on some headers.

I bought some Raceland longtubes (SuperSprint euro reps), and for $200, it was worth a shot.

Here's the build:

Since the Racelands are longtubes, and stock are shortys, I would have to cut up my expensive AA track pipe (section A of it) and that was something I didn't want to do.

I got them on Tuesday, and rushed to WTB muffler in Poway to consult with Marlon, the owner as to the installation and how to go about connecting the headers to section B of my track pipe with flanges and a Y pipe, making it easy to remove, and making a custom "section A".

He said he could do definitely do that, and I got started on the installation the next day.

Car all jacked up, ready to go.

Zoe the garage dog, busy with her shenanigans...

Stock headers, you need to leave.

Section A of the track pipe removed

Time to knock out the 24 nuts on the headers. My weapon of choice.

Some studs decided they wanted to stay.

All plugged up

O2 sensor bungs plugged

Finally yanked all the rest of the studs out

OMGZ it's in.

Getting the new gaskets in there (OEM ALL THE WAY)

Section B of the track pipe. It looks hungry.

There's the gap the muffler shop needs need to fill

Dat stainless steel...

Time for a dinner break

Almost there...

IN!

About a foot of space.

Clearance

Because race car

Annnnnnd since it's stupid loud with open headers, I used my AAA towing service to have it towed the to muffler shop. The commute to the muffler shop from my house is FILLED with Sheriffs.

On the tow truck

Clearance

And here's the custom section A midpipe!

And of course, I had to take some videos before it went to the muffler shop.

My review of the headers:

Pretty easy install. I deleted my A/C and my wiper fluid, so I had a lot of room to work with. Also, if you have an X-brace, REMOVE IT. It'll save you a lot of time.

The install was pretty easy, just make sure you have a buddy or two helping you. Luckily, Robert and my dad were helping me out and we knocked it out in ~6 hours with some breaks (to the parts store and for dinner)

Since I've only driven ~6 miles, I can't really say whether or not I like them.

Here's what I've noticed.

It's pretty quiet.

My stock headers + section A of the track pipe were a little louder. Also, I used to backfire and back burble A LOT on downshifts without rev-matches. I don't really do that anymore.

I can feel an increased throttle response, a tiny bit of a power boost at low RPMs and some more pull, but nothing major.

I'm getting it on the Dyno in a few weeks to see what I've done.

So there's my review.

I hope you enjoyed it!

Brandon

hahaha if you know me, you know that I have a hatred...no, hate is a kind word. I DESPISE Priuses.

Despise is an understatement.

And I didn't plan that at all.

Is your M3 really only getting 217whp? I think stock at the crank they have 240 right? Seems like its got more than that to me lol

Actually it's a pretty good dyno.

Considering it's a 16 year old car, relatively stock, and to the wheels, it's a pretty good HP/Tq.

Pretty good torque condsidering it's an S50 (95).

If you look around at other E36 M3 dynos, mine is pretty high up there for the mods I have (intake, chip, track pipe, exhaust).

I haven't dynoed it since the headers, AC delete, or 3.38 LSD

I have to work at the BMW South County booth, but I'm going to ask my dad to bring it down. If not, hopefully a friend can.

Come say hi!

I mounted the GoPro on the back at a mini time attack yesterday and got these results.

Mother of god. It's so unique. I love it.
